Hūnua.
Pedestrian connectivity in rural settlements such as Hūnua, Ararimu and Paparimu is compromised by the lack of safe, separated paths.
In Ararimu, the village path has demonstrated that pedestrian linkages in rural communities can be very successful, encouraging more local recreation and reducing vehicle trips by providing usable pedestrian and cycling connections.
Hūnua Road footpath, service station to Cowan Road
Pedestrian connections within Hūnua Village stops abruptly at the service station, with walking on the road a safety risk and a deterrent to many.
This trail proposes to extend the existing footpath to Cowan Road. This will almost complete a loop connection around Hūnua Village.
