Kawakawa Bay Coastal Path
Kawakawa Bay is a coastal community, spanning two bays (locally referred to as Bay 1 & Bay 2) that look out to the Hauraki Gulf. With it’s friendly seaside ambiance, Kawakawa Bay is experiencing significant growth with a large development underway (over 300 homes), meaning Kawakawa Bay will almost double in size in the next few years.
Currently our community is split without a safe means to walk, run or bike between the two bays. This restricts the local communities ability to access local amenities such as the kindergarten, dairy, garage, health clinic, community hall and playgrounds & tennis court.
The community has been seeking for a number of years (over 10 years) to join two existing footpaths, linking Bay 1 and Bay 2. This will provide a safe area to walk, run or bike to access the local amenities but also enjoy the coastline for recreational purposes. A linked path will also look to protect the foreshore and it’s flora & fauna eg. nesting dottrells.
The Franklin Paths and Trails Targeted Rate would deliver this path and provide a way to potentially make this long-standing community wish a reality.
Unfortunately with no safe path to use it stops people from accessing this area.
