Project:
Location:
Pukekohe Priority Route 8A – Puni Reserve
We’re progressing early planning for Priority Route 8A in Pukekohe, supporting safer, more accessible local travel and improving links to schools, residential areas, and the wider path network.
What’s Happening
The project has moved into early planning, and initial concept development has begun.
Recent work includes:
- A site walkover with Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua to understand cultural, environmental, and locally significant considerations that will help guide the project
- Early engagement with Franklin Local Board members to share initial findings and gather local insights.
- Identification of areas requiring concrete surfacing due to heavy water flow in large rainfall events.
This early engagement is helping refine the scope before concept design progresses further.
What’s Changing
As planning continues, we are exploring:
- A safer, more separated path alignment along Blake Road
- How this route connects into the wider Pukekohe walking and cycling network
- Opportunities to improve safety and accessibility for local residents and school communities to Puni Reserve
Why It Matters
- Improves safety for people walking and cycling
- Supports access to schools, parks, and neighbourhoods
- Strengthens the wider Pukekohe path network
