Project:
Location:
Whitford War Memorial Domain Path
Project Update:
In their April 2026 business meeting, the Franklin Local Board has approved the Whitford War Memorial Domain Path to move forward to detailed design. Any further updates to this project will be provided here.
What’s Happening
A new 193‑metre gravel path will be built along the rear boundary of the council‑owned residential property beside the Domain. This alignment avoids impacts on the sports fields and does not require any tree removal.
The project has completed its design phase and is now progressing toward procurement. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, subject to contractor availability and weather conditions.
What’s Changing
- A 1.6‑metre‑wide gravel path will be constructed behind the Domain
- New timber fencing and two farm gates will be installed
- Provides a safe, direct connection between the Domain to Whitford‑Maraetai Road and Whitford Village
Why It Matters
- Creates a safer, more accessible walking route for the Whitford community
- Supports local connections to the bus stop and Whitford town centre
- Improves everyday access to sports fields and community facilities
- Delivers a key link in the Franklin Paths Programme
Funding for this project has been confirmed through the Franklin Paths Programme, with additional support from the Whitford Community Charitable Trust.
