Business Park to Town Connection Path
Project Update
The Waiuku Southern Trail project is progressing, with work underway to refine the preferred alignment and confirm how the path will connect the Waiuku Business Park to the town centre.
The main focus right now is resolving land ownership and access requirements, including a detailed easement process. Because part of the route sits alongside the rail corridor, this stage requires careful coordination to ensure safe and suitable access.
These approvals must be completed before the project can move into detailed design. Progress is steady, and further updates will be provided as this work continues.
About the project
- Creates a central walking and cycling connection through Waiuku
- Improves connections between the town centre, Kitchener Road, and James Bright Lane
- Follows part of the Glenbrook Vintage Railway corridor, using available space alongside the rail line
- Forms an important missing link in the local walking and cycling network
Work completed so far
- Initial investigations completed including surveying and early route assessments carried out
- Early engagement undertaken with Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua, local businesses, and stakeholders provided input to help shape the alignment
- Currently working through land ownership and access requirements, which must be resolved before design can progres
